In 2000, GDS planned, designed and began to build a commercial disaster recovery center in Guanlan, Shenzhen, which met international standards.

In 2002, GDS successfully provided disaster recovery outsourcing services for SDB, including business analysis, risk assessment, disaster recovery system design, testing, implementation and exercise, and disaster recovery plan formulation. This project set a precedent for outsourcing disaster recovery services in China.

In May 2003, GDS took the lead in obtaining the certificate of "Qualification of Disaster Backup Outsourcing Service for Bank Data Center" issued by the Ministry of Public Security and the People's Bank of China.

In June, 2004, GDS provided disaster preparedness design, implementation and operation consulting services for Shenzhen Municipal Government Disaster Preparedness and Network Interaction Center, which was the first government disaster preparedness consulting service in China.

In August 2004, GDS implemented remote disaster recovery service for Haifutong Fund Management Company, which was the first case of disaster recovery outsourcing for fund management company in China.
