Shaoyang Vocational and Technical College was established in 2003. It is a full-time general higher vocational college founded by the merger of the former Shaoyang Economic and Trade School (1952), Shaoyang Electromechanical Engineering School (1979) and Shaoyang Agricultural School (1957), approved by the Hunan Provincial People's Government, put on record by the Ministry of Education, and sponsored by Shaoyang Municipal People's Government.
