Shang Yisheng in Beijing: the disappearing culture of filial piety

On the afternoon of February 27th, 2065438+0165438, the second trial of "Airport Mother Injured with a Knife" was held in Shanghai No.1 Intermediate People's Court. In the course of the second trial, Wang, the perpetrator involved in the case, stressed that he was suffering from schizophrenia and should receive treatment and should not be subject to criminal punishment. Wang's attorney believes that the original judicial expertise opinion is flawed and continues to defend his innocence. Nine months ago, Wang's "mother stabbed to death at the airport" incident once triggered unanimous condemnation from "filial piety" and "responsibility". But up to now, the person involved has not responded to the public voluntarily from the moral point of view, and is still struggling to defend himself and thinks that he should not be punished criminally. International students stabbed their mothers at the airport because of tuition disputes.

The "airport stabbing" occurred on March 365438, 20 1 year. After returning to Shanghai that night, Wang, a student studying in Japan, stabbed his mother who came to meet him at the arrival hall of Pudong International Airport several times. This scene shocked the people around him, and Wang was immediately taken away by the police.

Subsequent investigations showed that before boarding the plane and returning to China, Wang, who had been studying in Japan for nearly five years, called his mother and said that he "had no money to starve to death" and needed living expenses urgently. After being rejected by his mother, Wang flew back to China angrily. Afterwards, Wang admitted that at about 8: 30 that night, after he arrived at Shanghai Pudong Airport to meet his mother in the terminal, the first sentence he asked at that time was "Do you have any money, will you give it to me?" Then there was a dispute between the two sides, and Wang's mother made it clear that she had no financial resources for her further study.

An old father who was scratched by a civil servant's son.

In the process of the two of them walking towards the airport exit, Wang Mu followed Wang all the time and said, "If you want money, it will kill you." At this time, Wang, who was deeply stimulated, suddenly took out two sharp knives from his carry-on luggage and slashed his mother's head, arms, abdomen, back and other parts. Unsuspecting Wang Mu fell to the ground and was unconscious on the spot. Wang was caught by the police when he fled the scene, but Wang Mu had many stomach and liver problems.

Seven months after the mother was stabbed, the People's Court of Pudong New Area of Shanghai held a hearing on the case in late October, 201kloc-0/65438/kloc-0. According to the report issued by judicial expertise, Wang did suffer from schizophrenia, but the prosecution believed that Wang's behavior at the time of committing the crime was suspected of intentional injury. Wang's defender believes that Wang completely lost his ability to identify and control at the time of the incident and defended him. In the end, the court made a judgment in the first instance, and the defendant Wang committed the crime of intentional injury and was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison.

For such a judgment, Wang did not recognize it and appealed. Regarding the grounds for appeal, Wang claimed that he was suffering from schizophrenia and was a patient. At present, he has not received reasonable treatment and should not be subject to criminal punishment. In the trial of second instance held on February 27th, 201KLOC-0/65438, the prosecution and the defense continued to have a heated debate on how to understand the expression in the Judicial Appraisal Opinion. It is reported that the court will make a final judgment on this case on another day. At the same time that Wang's case was pronounced in the first instance, another incident that was often mentioned side by side with the "stabbing mother case" was being staged in Shenzhen.

On the morning of 24 October, 2065438+01kloc-0, Liao, a civil servant of Shenzhen Guangming New District Development and Finance Bureau, had a conflict with his 59-year-old father. Father's clothes were torn by Liao and he was injured in many places, especially his left shoulder.

Bite and bleed to death. My parents, who are nearly sixty years old, came to Shenzhen from their hometown in Chenzhou, Hunan Province to help their son take care of the children. Unexpectedly, what she got was the abuse and beating of her son as a civil servant.

Subsequent investigations showed that in more than four months, Liao violently beat his mother seven times and called her a pig. "Why didn't you crash and die?" However, unlike Wang, who stabbed his mother to death at the airport, who accused the society of "silence", Liao, who had been escaping under the pressure of the media and public opinion, suddenly woke up and finally stood up and admitted his mistake. Things ended in family reconciliation.

Wang He and Liao, two people who have nothing to do with each other, are often mentioned together in later days: Wang is an international student studying in Japan, and Liao is a master's student who studied in Peking University for one year, and both of them have good educational backgrounds; Wang's tuition and living expenses have always been borne by his mother who is not rich. Liao's parents also came from their hometown to help with the children. Both parents have paid and sacrificed a lot for their children. The most important thing is that both of them attacked their parents on the spur of the moment, which caused social reflection. Is the traditional filial piety culture with a long history missing?

Parents have worked hard to raise their children, and children who have achieved academic success actually repay them in turn. The successive occurrence of "airport stabbing mother" and "civil servant biting father" has aroused the reflection of the whole society. In fact, these are not two isolated cases. In 2009, three college students made a survey in the town of Qufu, Shandong Province, the birthplace of filial piety culture. The survey sample includes more than 2,000 families over 65 years old 1 186 people. The survey results show that 72.2% of the elderly are separated from their children, 5.6% are underfed, 85% are poorly dressed, and 90% are short of daily necessities. At the same time, among more than 300 children surveyed, 3 1% think that parents are filial even if they are not afraid of the cold.

China has been called a country of etiquette since ancient times, and the monograph "The Book of Filial Piety" appeared more than two thousand years ago. There is even a saying among the people that filial piety comes first. However, the tragedy that is constantly being staged today cannot but make people reflect. Why is the "filial piety culture" that China people have been proud of for thousands of years being forgotten? The weakening of the concept of filial piety can not only solve the problem from the moral level, but also has complex social reasons behind it. Nowadays, the trend of "aging" in China society is increasing day by day. The proportion of young people is decreasing, and the number of old people is increasing. The family structure of "4-2- 1" is becoming more and more common. At the same time, the social old-age security system is far from perfect, the economic pressure on young people to provide for the aged is increasing, and more and more people are trying to evade their responsibilities. A survey in Qufu, Shandong Province mentioned earlier shows that 56.

On the other hand, there are also specific difficulties for specific classes. Young people who work hard in cities are facing increasing pressure to survive. In the case that their survival cannot be well guaranteed, moral issues such as filial piety naturally rank behind. In rural areas, the social system of dual differentiation and opposition between urban and rural areas has also increased the difficulties for rural people to provide for the elderly. It is very common for rural families to be separated from each other, and it is difficult for a family to get together and get along with each other day and night. Naturally, it is impossible to talk about the cultivation of "filial piety culture" and "filial piety".

Just as the society reflected on the lack of "filial piety", the Chinese Ethics Society started the project of cultivating filial sons.

In recent years, how to inherit the filial piety culture in the new era, especially how to let children know filial piety and cultivate their filial piety, has aroused widespread concern in society. The news that China Ethics will train millions of dutiful sons has once again stimulated the public's nerves.

According to reports, the training program for Chinese dutiful sons, which was carried out by the Cixiao Cultural Professional Committee of the Chinese Ethical Society, was launched in Beijing on 201kloc-0/65438 on1October 30. According to the report, the Chinese Ethics Society conducted a detailed investigation before. According to the survey results, the filial piety work idea of "filial piety is tailored to the age, filial piety is lifelong, and family participation is process" and the filial piety mode of "one hundred days' support, three years' follow-up and long-term assistance" are summarized. It is reported that the project will plan to train millions of dutiful sons in China in about five years.

Five years to train millions of dutiful sons! As soon as this slogan was released, it caused a fierce response in society. Among the statements made by the Chinese Ethics Society on this project, its research results are the first to be questioned.

It is reported that since 2008, the Cixiao Cultural Professional Committee has carried out a special investigation on the "growth and filial piety" of teenagers. The results show that "in the survey of 100 families, 98% families think that filial piety of their children is closely related to their learning and growth;" A follow-up survey on the relationship between filial piety and learning among 100 students of different school age shows that 96% children with good academic performance have filial piety; A filial piety survey of 100 teenagers with internet addiction and criminal behavior shows that only 3% teenagers listen to their parents and have filial piety. " Whether this investigation can stand the test has been bombarded. In recent years, there have been many cases of abuse of the elderly by highly educated people, and Wang and Liao mentioned above all have good educational backgrounds. Therefore, many people question that it is difficult to link filial piety with political achievements.

However, the most controversial is the five-year model of cultivating millions of dutiful sons proposed by this project. Can filial sons really be mass-produced, and can filial sons really be cultivated through the methods proposed in the training program? In this regard, the views of all parties are different.

Some commentators said that the "filial piety training program" is not a "training class" in the usual sense, but a training mode of "filial piety at the right age, filial piety in life and family participation in the process". With the participation of family and education in life, it should be said that the filial son training plan is not contrary to common sense, but more based on common sense, so it should be tolerant.

However, more and more people believe that morality cannot exist alone without society, and relying solely on engineering to cultivate dutiful sons can only play an encouraging role.

Can more and more formal patterns really cultivate dutiful sons?

It is not the first time that the question of how to cultivate a dutiful son has been raised. Long before the "Filial Piety Training Project" started, the school has been trying to carry out various "filial piety" education, and the voice of controversy has never stopped. Also in June 5438+last year 10, a school playground in Chongqing was neatly filled with more than 300 footbath. More than 300 second-grade students in this school help grandpa, grandma and mom wash their feet under the guidance of a professional foot washing teacher. Previously, a school in Guangzhou also organized similar activities, when there were hundreds of students in the school.

Junior two students kneel to their parents in the playground. Whether these highly ornamental ceremonies can "collectively" cultivate dutiful sons still needs to be questioned, but the form is more like a show.

Can filial sons be mass-produced? How can we cultivate children's filial piety? On this issue, the reporter interviewed Cheng Weimin, an associate professor at Peking University Institute of Sociology and Anthropology. Cheng Weimin said that it is necessary to educate children to respect the elderly, but it is too formal if it is extended to engineering. Filial piety is like a seed. Seeds must germinate and soil is very important. If the whole society has an atmosphere of respecting and loving the elderly, children will naturally become filial when they grow up in this environment. Therefore, the filial son is not cultivated by one party, and a good environment needs to be created by family, school and society.
