The school's predecessor was 1950, which founded the training courses for post and telecommunications personnel in Shaanxi and Gansu provinces, and later xi 'an Post and Telecommunications School. Xi Institute of Posts and Telecommunications was established on 1959 with the approval of the State Council, and it is the only ordinary university of posts and telecommunications in northwest China. In 2000, it was transferred to Shaanxi Province, and a central and local management system was established, with Shaanxi Province as the main management. On March 20 12, it was renamed as Xi University of Posts and Telecommunications with the approval of the Ministry of Education.
As of April 2023, the school covers an area of 1500 mu, with 14 teaching and research units and 48 undergraduate majors. There are 1 authorized point for doctor's degree in first-class discipline, 13 authorized point for master's degree in first-class discipline and 9 authorized categories for master's degree; There are more than 700 faculty members 1.700 and nearly 20,000 students. As of April 2023, the school has more than 700 faculty members/kloc-0, including more than 500 senior titles. There are more than 100 teachers who have won outstanding contributions from young and middle-aged experts in China, candidates for the New Century Excellent Talents Support Program of the Ministry of Education, candidates for the Special Support Program of Shaanxi Province, candidates for the "Third Five-Year Plan" talent project in Shaanxi Province, Shaanxi Youth Science and Technology Star, second-and third-grade professors, national outstanding teachers, provincial famous teachers and other talent projects and honorary winners.
