Inheritance of Buddhist Music in Wutai Mountain
The Buddhist music in Wutai Mountain belongs to the northern system, but it is independent from the East and West, with its own system and simple tunes. It is the product of the combination of music art and religion, a special cultural phenomenon in social development and an important part of Buddhist culture in Wutai Mountain. It is considered to be the representative of northern Buddhist music, which has great influence in the whole northern China and the whole country except Wutai Mountain. In China's music culture, Wutai Mountain Buddha music also occupies an important position. Therefore, it is of great significance to inherit and protect the "Wutai Mountain Buddha Music".

Historically, both the Green Temple and the Yellow Temple in Wutai Mountain have their own bands. In addition to chanting and playing in temples every day, there will be bands playing in various dharma meetings. Since then, temple music has spread to the people, and monks and lamas have been invited to recite scriptures and play music for birthdays and funerals. It takes several years or even more than ten years to train a monk who can play musical instruments and chant scriptures, and the monks in the training class are very mobile, which leads to the inability to fully play most of the music. Traveling around the world is a lifestyle that many monks are willing to choose, but it takes lasting endurance and perseverance to inherit the endless Buddhist and musical cultural heritage of Wutai Mountain. At the same time, with the reduction of traditional rituals in Wutai Mountain, the use of Buddhist music is also less useful, and some traditional tracks are gradually lost. 1958, 18 monks from Huang Qing Temple in Wutai Mountain formed a band and went to Taiyuan, the provincial capital, to play temple music and won the prize.

1986, in order to solve the problem of music inheritance, Nanshan Temple, Shuxiang Temple and Bodhisattva Ding in Wutai Mountain set up Buddhist music training classes respectively, which undertook the tasks of excavating and sorting out Buddhist music materials and teaching Buddhist music in Wutai Mountain.

1989 In March, Wutaishan Buddhist Music Orchestra came to Hong Kong for the first time to perform large-scale Buddhist music, which caused a sensation and had a great response.

The state attaches great importance to the protection of intangible cultural heritage. On May 20th, 2006, Wutai Mountain Buddha Music was approved by the State Council to be included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.

On June 20th, 2003, China Buddhist and Taoist Music Exhibition was performed in Beijing. Wutaishan Buddhist Orchestra and six major Buddhist orchestras, including Beijing Buddhist Orchestra, Jiangsu Gusu County Orchestra, Beijing Baiyunguan Taoist Orchestra, Qinghai Labuleng Temple Buddhist Orchestra and Taiwan Province Foguangshan Bai Fan Ritual Orchestra, gathered in Zhongshan Concert Hall.

Nanshan Temple holds the annual Land and Water Dafa Conference, and is often invited to do various Buddhist activities and performances at home and abroad. When there are large-scale activities in provinces, cities and counties, the government and relevant departments actively recommend them to participate, which creates excellent exhibition opportunities for Buddhist orchestras.

2011March19th, a Buddhist orchestra composed of musicians from Nanshan Temple and Shuxiang Temple, led by Master Hui Guang, performed at the Shanghai Grand Theatre with "Charming Sanjin-Shanxi Culture and Art Exhibition Month" and won bursts of applause.
