The school has more than 450 full-time teachers and more than 6,000 students. The school covers an area of more than 600 mu, with a building area of over 350,000 square meters. Shanghai Institute of Physical Education is one of the first doctoral degree awarding units of China Institute of Physical Education (1986), and adheres to the policy of "paying equal attention to characteristics and quality, and promoting discipline construction and talent training". Shanghai Institute of Physical Education is a qualified school of China government scholarship and a pilot institution designated by the Ministry of Education to recruit China government scholarship students independently. The school has established cooperative relations with more than 70 universities and institutions in 25 countries and regions, and trained more than 1000 international students from more than 60 countries or regions such as the United States, France, Germany, Japan and South Korea. The school cooperated with Luxemburg to establish the European branch of China Table Tennis Institute, and cooperated with Macau Institute of Technology to hold overseas sports master program.
