How to realize SMED?
Step 1: Observe the current process.

Objective: We should collect the current data about line changes to ensure that the number of observers is the same as the number of people placing tools.

Observe the whole line changing process, from the last product before line changing to the first product after line changing; Include time, record all actions, find any problems or opportunities, and record activities by video if necessary.

Step 2: Distinguish between internal preparation time and external preparation time.

Objective: To distinguish between internal thread changing time and external thread changing time, in addition to the preparation time, it can greatly shorten the die changing time.

By analyzing the current data collected in the first step, the mold changing operation is divided into two categories: internal preparation operation and external preparation operation, and the external preparation operation is carried out before and after the shutdown, which saves the time of external preparation operation.

In order to avoid the abnormal situation in the process of die changing, a die changing checklist should be made before die changing, including die changing tools, trolley or crane, processing objects, testing instruments, etc.

Step 3: Eliminate the waste of internal preparation.

Objective: To eliminate the waste of internal preparation time, so as to shorten the mold changing time.

The conventional method is to eliminate the waste in wire changing through the following means: parallel operation, rotary one-time locking method, collision and clamping system, unified tool placement method/position, unified tool size, unified screw head size, detailed tool replacement table, improved setting and avoidance of debugging.

Step 4: External preparation and continuous internal preparation.

Objective: To shorten the time of mold changing by subdividing the internal preparation work.
