There are two compulsory subjects for applying for a master's degree in calligraphy. One is the unified examination of public courses, and the national unified proposition subjects, namely foreign languages and politics. Among them, foreign languages can be selected from Japan, Britain and Russia, and political subjects must be tested, including Ma Zhemao, Deng Lun and the latest Socialism with Chinese characteristics Theory.

The postgraduate entrance examination for calligraphy majors, like other majors, is divided into initial examination and second examination.

There are four courses in the initial test, of which two public courses (foreign language politics) each score 100, and two professional courses each score 150, with a total score of 500. Specialized courses generally include an introduction to art and China's calligraphy or art history. After passing the initial test, those who pass the results and rankings can enter the second test.

Re-examination, including interview, foreign language oral examination and professional written examination, calligraphy professional examination is attached separately.

There are also some colleges and universities that will take part in the preliminary examination of temporary posts and theoretical re-examination, depending on the general arrangement of enrollment institutions.
