Tanhualin is located in the west of Wuchang District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province, next to Hubei University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Within the city wall, between the northern foot of Huayuan Mountain and the southern foot of Xiejiao (also known as Mingcheng Mountain), it runs east-west along the two mountains.

Tanhualin in history refers to the eastern section connected with Gejiaying exit. 1946, the local authorities in Wuchang merged Kevin·Z Street and Youjia Lane, west of Gejiaying exit, into Tanhualin, whose street name has been in use ever since.

At present, Tanhualin Street starts from Wuchang Huayuan Mountain in the north, Phoenix Mountain in the south, Zhongshan Road in the east and Desheng Bridge in the west, with a total length of 1200m. It is an old street gradually formed after the expansion and finalization of Wuchang City in the fourth year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (137 1).
