Shanxi Art Vocational College was established on September 26th, 2000 with the approval of Shanxi Provincial People's Government. It is formed by the merger of Shanxi Culture and Art School, Shanxi Film School and Shanxi Workers College, the only adult art university in Shanxi Province. Its predecessor was Shanxi Culture and Art School, which was founded in 195 1 year (it was once upgraded to Shanxi Art College in 1950s). It is the first art vocational college approved after China began to focus on developing higher vocational education. The college is divided into three-year junior college (high school, technical secondary school, starting point of vocational high school), five-year consistent vocational high school (starting point of junior high school), five-year technical secondary school (starting point of dance and music class in primary school), adult junior college (full-time, correspondence) and junior college (correspondence).
Taiyuan, known as Jinyang in ancient times, is also known as Bingzhou and Longcheng. It is an important central city in the central region and an industrial base focusing on energy and heavy chemical industry as determined by the provincial capital and the State Council.
