In recent years, with the goal of cultivating future educators, Huazhong Normal University has reformed and innovated the concept of running a school, explored the talent training mode with distinctive characteristics of normal education, attached importance to practical teaching, strengthened the cultivation of practical ability, and emerged a number of outstanding normal students. In the "Challenge Cup" national extracurricular academic and scientific works competition for college students, the national English speech competition, the national mathematical modeling competition for college students, the acm international college programming competition and other important competitions at home and abroad, the normal students of this school have won numerous awards.

Huazhong Normal University builds a test platform for teachers' skills training, so as to improve the professional skills and practical ability of normal students, especially free normal students. Skills training and testing platform mainly covers basic skills training, testing and teaching ability training. Three comprehensive training platforms for practical skills of normal students, namely calligraphy training, Putonghua training and future classroom, have been established. At the same time, the school also holds regular teaching skill competitions for normal students every year. The competition is divided into two levels: preliminary contest and final contest. Through the competition, students can strengthen practical exercise, let them find their own shortcomings from the competition, learn from the competition, and give full play to the teaching potential of a large number of outstanding students.

Mao, a free normal student majoring in ideological and political science in the College of Political Science and Law, once walked into the dormitory and saw the powerful chalk characters on the propaganda wall of the building. In addition to building a free training platform for normal students' basic teaching skills, Huazhong Normal University has also set up a professional laboratory for normal students' experimental teaching ability training, which meets the requirements of the new curriculum reform in middle schools and carefully constructs a series of "experimental research and practice in middle schools" experimental modules such as physics, chemistry and biology. At the same time, guided by the experimental teaching demonstration center, the school vigorously promotes the integration of laboratory resources and the reform of laboratory system, so that experimental teaching centers at all levels basically cover all undergraduate majors and experimental courses in the school, and large-scale instruments and equipment in the school are regularly opened to the public to support and encourage students to carry out research and innovative experiments.

Ma Min said that what normal students lack most now is practical ability and understanding of primary education. To strengthen the cultivation of students' practical ability, we must go to the grassroots and rural education to improve students' practical ability.

Huazhong Normal University also relies on the off-campus practice base and the experimental area for comprehensive reform of teacher education, giving full play to the normal characteristics of the school's talent training and building a comprehensive and multifunctional practice teaching base, which provides a platform for strengthening the practical ability of normal students. At present, the school has listed 40 practice bases 140, and 42 bases are under construction, including 30 national experimental zones for teacher education innovation and comprehensive service reform signed by 10 provinces and regions.
