Gansu Finance and Trade Vocational College was established on February 29th, 2006 with the approval of Gansu Provincial People's Government. It is sponsored by the provincial government and affiliated to the Provincial Department of Education. It is the only public financial vocational college in the province.

On the basis of the former Lanzhou Garment Workers College, the college was formed by the integration of seven schools directly under the provincial education department, including Gansu Bank School, Gansu Economic School, Gansu Finance and Trade School, Gansu Economic and Trade School, Gansu Commercial School, Gansu Industrial and Commercial Administration School and Gansu Art and Design School.

1979 Gansu Finance and Trade School (part of the original resources of Gansu Provincial Department of Commerce Cadre School) was transformed into Gansu Provincial Commercial School.

1984 Gansu Foreign Economic and Trade School (to be determined).

1990 Gansu foreign economic and trade school (to be established) was formally established.

Gansu Foreign Economic and Trade School merged with Gansu Commercial School (co-located).

Gansu Foreign Economic and Trade Research and Training Center (joint office) was established.
