FCE is an exam specially designed for intermediate and advanced English learners. Its level is equivalent to the B2 level of European Language Syllabus designated by Council of Europe, and it is equivalent to the IELTS test level of 5.0 to 6.5.

The grading of FCE papers was completed in Cambridge University. The marking staff is an expert with rich teaching experience and has received corresponding training. The whole marking process is inspected and supervised by senior marking staff.
FCE test scores are divided into five grades: A, B and C are "up to standard" grades; D and e are "substandard" grades. The test score is the sum of the five parts of the test paper. Each candidate will receive an explanation of the test results eight weeks after the end of the test. It not only provides the total score of the candidates, but also shows whether the candidates scored extremely high or extremely low in a certain part of the test paper. Candidates who pass the exam will get a certificate within three months after the exam.
