Creative background:
Wang Gong, a good friend of Su Shi, was demoted to the hinterland of Lingnan, Pennsylvania, because he was involved in the Wutai poetry case that killed Su Shi. After Wang Gong was demoted, her geisha Rounu (Yu Niang) resolutely accompanied her to Lingnan. 1083 (in the sixth year of Yuanfeng), Wang Gong returned to the north and gave a soft slave to persuade Su Shi to drink. When Su Shi asked about the customs of Guangnan, Rounu replied, "This peaceful place is my hometown".
Su Shi was greatly moved after hearing this, and wrote this word to praise it. Some scholars believe that this word was written in December of A.D. 1085 (the eighth year of Yuanfeng). AD 1084 (the seventh year of Su Shi Yuanfeng), he moved from Huangzhou to Ruzhou in March and lived in Changzhou on the way to his post. In June of eight years, I learned that I was in Dengzhou. In October, I was recalled by Assistant Minister Li. In December, I went to Beijing to have a banquet with Wang Gong and made this impromptu remark.
