That was when Zheng Banqiao was still in Suzhou. He often painted bamboo and orchids, and sometimes Henaan scales and landscapes, but he didn't paint plum blossoms.

Because there is a studio at the west end of Taohua Lane where he lives, the owner is Zijing Lu, who is good at painting plum blossoms, claiming that the plum blossoms he painted "look at the flowers from a distance and smell them near".

Lu is a poor scholar, dragging his sick body, his parents are in the world, and his wife and children are in the world. Life is quite difficult, and I support my family by selling painted plum blossoms. He painted plums realistically and vividly, and every petal was lifelike.

When someone asks to paint plum blossoms, he always laughs modestly: "The plum blossoms I painted are far worse than those painted by Mr. Lu. Go, I'll take you to Teacher Lu to draw! " I often praise Zijing Lu's paintings in front of everyone, praising: "The plum blossoms painted by Mr. Lu, even if I study for another ten or eight years, may not be able to draw to this extent."

A senior official retired from Beijing and returned to China. He is proficient in calligraphy and loves calligraphy and painting. He was very happy to see Zheng Banqiao's words and paintings, so he wrote a painting called Plum Blossoms in the Valley, and asked Zheng Banqiao to paint it. Since the veteran invited Zijing Lu to paint plum blossoms, Zijing Lu felt that his paintings were much better than those of Zheng Banqiao, and from time to time he boasted that he was the second in Suzhou, and no one dared to say that he was the first. Some friends took Zijing Lu's words to Zheng Banqiao, but Zheng Banqiao laughed them off.

Zheng Banqiao lived in Suzhou for three years, and one day he decided to move to Yangzhou.

When he left, Zijing Lu came to see him off. Painting friends, of course, have to send Dan Qing. This time, Zheng Banqiao gave Zijing Lu a plum blossom. I saw that he spread out the paper and waved his pen, and the pen was crooked. From deep to shallow, he drew a plum tree trunk with a little white. When painting flowers, the ink depth should be appropriate, some light and some heavy, and the petals should be pointed out directly with light ink, and then the lower end of the petals should be infiltrated with Jiao Mo when the water is not dry. The structure of the whole picture, only three or four plum blossoms are clearly painted, and the rest are smeared, which really has the artistic conception of "striking thousands of trees for fun only for three or five flowers".
