Ordos City is located in the southwest of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, bordering Pianguan County of Shanxi Province, Qingshuihe County and Tuoketuo County of Hohhot City of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in the east, Yinchuan City, Tao Le County, Pingluo County, Shizuishan City and Wuhai City of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in the west, Zuo Qi City of Alashan League and Dengkou County of Bayannur League in the west, Hequ County of Shanxi Province, Fugu County of Shaanxi Province, Shenmu County, Yulin County and Hengshan County in the south. It is about 400 kilometers long from Dujiamao, Weijiamao Township in Zhungeer Banner in the westernmost part to Jiangui Township in Otog Banner, and about 340 kilometers wide from Caoshanliang in Chuansumuqi Banner in the southernmost part to Surige, Yongsheng Township in Hangjinqi Banner in the northwest part, with a total area of about 86,752 square kilometers. Geographical coordinates are 37 35' 24 "north latitude-40 51'40"-127' 20 "east longitude.
Ordos city is also called Ordos Plateau. From a large-scale topography, it is characterized by Luliang Mountain and Luya Mountain in the north-south direction in the east, Helan Mountain and Xizhuozi Mountain in the west, crescent-shaped Yinshan Mountain in the east-west direction in the north, and the northern slope of Qinling Mountain in the east-west direction in the south. The elevations of the surrounding mountainous areas are all between 2500-5 100 meters, while the elevations in Yimeng are mostly between 1.000- 1.500 meters. Therefore, from a geological point of view, Ordos Plateau is also called Ordos Basin, which is a plateau and a basin.
