There are really three languages in my family: Cantonese, Mandarin and Wuzhou dialect. My baby can talk now. He speaks better Mandarin and Cantonese, but he can understand my instructions basically in Mandarin. If he can speak Cantonese, he can speak some, but he can't understand some. He can only judge by my expression.
The origin of three languages in my family is like this. My husband and I come from different places. At the beginning of communication, it is natural to communicate directly in Mandarin. Although they also speak Wuzhou dialect, he seldom says that their local dialect is different from my Cantonese. I can't understand some dialects.
Naturally, we all use Mandarin to communicate in our daily life. Only occasionally when I take care of my baby at home, due to the development of a language, I will speak Cantonese with my baby, because everyone says Cantonese is difficult to learn, but Mandarin is much simpler, and Pinyin will do. Besides, when I study, I will definitely speak Mandarin, so I will definitely learn it easily.
Therefore, now that the baby is in the language development period, one of his favorite things to do now is to parrot what I say, and then he will imitate it, and then he can say what I say quickly. When the baby's language has not developed, most of them just listen to us and then try to store these words!
Anyway, it must have something to do with the language that taught him to pronounce and speak. Now that I have been speaking Cantonese to my baby, he will definitely express some titles in Cantonese, such as mom and dad, grandparents, brothers and sisters, but not in other languages, because even if he can understand, there is no process of teaching and learning, and he is only responsible for listening.
My third language is Wuzhou dialect spoken by my husband and his parents. They always say that when they communicate together. Occasionally, they will speak these dialects when teaching their babies to speak. It's just that the babies just look at them puzzled and can't keep up with the rhythm. Probably because they don't talk much. Baby's grandparents only meet once a month or two!
I think it is good for the baby to have more contact with language since he was a child. I want to give him some English when he slowly learns to speak and express his meaning! Because some children have been exposed to English since childhood, most primary schools can speak fluent English.
