Eliza is considered as siri's "first teacher". As an early chat robot, Eliza's design concept and technology undoubtedly influenced later intelligent assistant systems, including modern voice assistants like siri. Although siri's function is far more complicated and advanced than Eliza's, Eliza is the predecessor of siri to some extent, which inspired the development of siri. Eliza is the first real chat robot in the world. It was written by Joseph Weser Ford, a systems engineer, and Kenneth Colby, a psychiatrist, in the 1960s. Its name comes from a character in George Bernard Shaw's drama Idol. It can have a simple English conversation with human beings. Although there was no major breakthrough in natural language understanding technology at that time, Eliza's appearance was still regarded as a puzzling achievement.
