Emphysema is characterized by shortness of breath when exerting force. This kind of dyspnea is caused by the loss of elasticity of lung tissue. It takes a lot of effort for the patient to exhale. Therefore, dirty air stays in the lungs, making it impossible to exchange carbon dioxide in oxygen.

Common patients with emphysema will pant like cattle after a little activity, and then some people will cough desperately. Usually, patients with emphysema are mostly elderly people, but they may also start to get sick in young or middle age. Patients with lung diseases such as chronic bronchitis or asthma are prone to emphysema. It is also related to heredity. There are more male patients than female patients, and some people get this disease because of insufficient serum protein. However, most cases are related to smoking. If you have emphysema and are a heavy smoker, you must give up smoking. Smoking will accelerate the deterioration of emphysema and eventually lead to death.

Emphysema is incurable at present, and it is classified as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease together with asthma. Here are some home remedies that can help you relieve the pain.

* Cough with abnormal sputum volume, especially when the color of sputum becomes darker and thicker. This is a symptom of bronchitis and upper respiratory tract infection, which may require antibiotic treatment.

* A mild cough (sometimes called "smoker's cough") lasts for several months. This symptom supports emphysema, but it may also be the early stage of lung cancer.

* Unexplained weight loss. This symptom may be related to emphysema, but it is also a feature of cancer.

* After light activities, such as climbing stairs, shortness of breath often occurs. Similarly, shortness of breath may also be caused by emphysema, but it may also be a manifestation of cancer or heart disease.

● Medical common sense

Self-examination of emphysema

A simple method of self-checking whether there is emphysema: light a candle, straighten your arms, hold your head up and hold your chest high, and don't bend over. If you can't blow out the candle, there is something wrong with your lungs. You should pay close attention to the treatment.
