After on-the-spot investigation and expert argumentation, China Development Research Foundation launched the pilot project of "Early Childhood Development in Poverty-stricken Areas" in Ledu County, Qinghai Province in September 2009. This project includes two parts: nutrition intervention and preschool education, aiming at achieving healthy birth of newborns, normal nutrition of infants and young children, and basic coverage of preschool education.

The "early childhood development project for children in poverty-stricken areas" includes two parts: nutrition intervention for -9 to 24 months and preschool education for 3 to 5 years old.

Nutrition intervention part includes:

(1) Provide free micronutrient supplements ("nutritional tablets") to pregnant women until delivery;

(2) Provide free baby food supplement for infants over 6 months old ("nutrition package") until the infants reach 24 months old;

(3) Establish a "mother's school" to regularly train pregnant women and parents of babies under 6 months old on nutrition and health care knowledge.

Preschool education includes:

(1) Use small surplus school buildings to set up village-level "early education points";

(2) Recruit pre-school volunteers with special training or relevant experience from the local area;

(3) Volunteers carry out preschool education activities in various "early education points" by means of "walking to teach".

Kindergarten plan

From 20 12 to 12, the preschool education part of the "early childhood development in poor areas" project became a "mountain village kindergarten" project independently. The goal of rural early education center is to select poor or remote counties in the central and western provinces, recruit pre-school education volunteers, and send early education to children in mountainous areas in the form of "walking education".
