How to judge the quality of eggplant seeds?
The quality of eggplant seeds mainly depends on seed purity, plumpness, germination rate, germination potential and seed purity, which can be used to judge seed quality.

(1) Seed Cleanliness The method of testing seed cleanliness is relatively simple. Randomly select a certain weight of seed samples, separate impurities such as sand, soil, branches and leaves, shriveled seeds and seeds of other crops, then weigh them, and calculate the cleanliness according to the following formula:

(2) fullness is the fullness of seeds. Generally expressed by 1000-grain weight, that is, the mass of 1000 seeds (grams). During the determination, 1000 seeds can be randomly selected and weighed to get the 1000-grain weight. The greater the 1000-grain weight, the fuller the seeds. The average 1000-grain weight of eggplant seeds is about 5.25 grams. (3) Germination rate refers to the percentage of germinated seeds in the sample seeds. Because for a certain crop, when the germination days are extended to a certain time, the ungerminated seeds generally will not germinate again. Therefore, in the actual determination of seed germination rate, a certain number of germination days is generally stipulated. The specified time for determining the germination rate of eggplant seeds is 14 days. The formula for calculating the germination rate is:

The germination rate can be determined by putting the seeds in Petri dishes, porcelain plates, gauze bags or towel bags. During germination, certain conditions should be maintained, such as temperature (30℃ or 30℃/20℃ temperature change), humidity, light and oxygen. (4) Germination potential refers to the percentage of germinated seeds in the tested seeds within a specified number of days. It is a quantitative index of seed germination speed, uniformity and germination concentration. The specified number of days for determining the germination potential of eggplant seeds is 7 days. The formula for calculating germination potential is:

Generally, the higher the germination potential, the more orderly the germination. (5) Seed purity The purity of eggplant seeds should reach more than 95%. Seed purity is generally tested by field identification. Each variety has its own morphological characteristics. After the seeds emerge or enter the flowering and fruiting period, a certain number of plants are randomly selected in the field, sensory identification is carried out according to the morphological characteristics of the varieties, the number of plants that meet and do not meet the characteristics of the varieties is recorded, and the purity of the varieties is calculated. At present, physiological or DNA molecular detection methods such as isoenzymes and specific proteins are also used to detect seed purity. The calculation formula of seed purity is:

According to the national standard GB 167 15.3 "Eggplant Seeds and Eggplants", the purity of eggplant hybrids is 98% for first-class seeds and 95% for second-class seeds. Cleanliness 98%; The germination rate is not lower than 85%, and the water content is not higher than 7%. The purity of conventional eggplant varieties is 99% of the original varieties and 96% of the improved varieties. Cleanliness 98%; The germination rate is not less than 75%, and the water content is not higher than 7%.
