[Theory 2] The concept, function and chord matching of chords
For example, chords in C major, as shown below.

Therefore, the main chord can be compared to a family, giving people a very stable feeling; But if we stay at home all the time, we will be bored. The same song will be boring if it only has the main chord, so there is an unstable chord to compare with the main chord, which gives people a feeling of not being bored. This chord is a chord.

The dominant chord gives people the feeling that it is neither the beginning nor the end, but the feeling of halfway. Therefore, the dominant chord can be compared to the external chord. If you are bored at home, you have to go for a walk outside. No matter how long you walk outside, you will eventually come home.

In harmony acoustics, this process from unstable feeling to stable feeling is called "solution"

If only the main chord and the subordinate chord are used, the music will still be monotonous, so the subordinate chord is produced.

The fourth chord in a key is called subordinate chord. F in C major is a subordinate chord, which is more stable than the dominant chord, but not as stable as the dominant chord. There is a sense of intermediary between the dominant chord and the subordinate chord, so the subordinate chord can be compared to a bridge. We often connect subordinate chords with subordinate chords.

We already know the major chord (C), minor chord (G) and minor chord (F) of the seventh chord in C major.

Then we can classify all the chords into these three chords.

Which category should the remaining four chords belong to?

Dm 2 4 6 doesn't sound so nervous, so it's more like a bridge.

Em and Am chords sound more stable, but not as stable as home, so they are compared to temporary homes (such as hotels or friends' homes)

Although Em and Am can't replace home, they can follow the c chord as an extension of home.

We can combine these chords at will, such as the following columns.

We heard a beautiful melody.

Or the spring breeze plays a melody on the piano.

I want to add chords to this melody.

We will use two chords, C and G7, to match the melody of bees.

How to match this melody with appropriate chords?

Smart, you can think for three minutes first

What?

For example, if the fifth part above is a C chord, then the fourth part can be matched with a C chord or a G7 chord. If the fourth paragraph is matched with a C chord, it will be a bit unsmooth when entering the fifth paragraph, so it can be matched with a G7, which will be smoother.

Probably using the thinking mode we mentioned earlier, the complete melody is like this.

We know that in c major,

If a sentence stops at the c chord, it will feel more stable and it will feel like it has come to an end;

If you stop at G7, you will feel the end and continue.

Now the eighth, 12 and 16 bars are all stopped at the C chord, so we can consider whether it is perfect or not.

In fact, there is no fixed answer to how often to change a chord;

We can change one chord in the bar, or we can change two chords in the bar, the first two chords and the last two chords.

Of course, you can also use a chord in two bars, which depends on the emotion and content of your music to determine how often you change the chord.

12 bar, our melody is 3 4 5, and the 5 in the last two beats can also be matched with G7 chord.

Connecting the G7 chord with the C chord of 13 bar sounds fuller and more satisfying.

Similarly, G7 chords can be added in bars 7 and 15 to make the music sound more satisfactory.

When there are 4 or 6 or 1 in the melody, you can consider playing the F chord.

For example, the fifth bar can be matched with the F chord.

The function of chord is similar to that of F chord, but it is dimmer and more melancholy than F chord.

If the fifth section is changed to Dm, it is too dim, and it is not good to follow C, and F is more appropriate.

It feels good to change the seventh bar to Dm and then to G7 (second chord-fifth chord).

It feels like this after matching.
