The accompanying children of foreigners whose parents hold foreign passports, legally enter Shanghai to work, and obtain employment certificates and residence permits for foreigners.
Children born abroad to China citizens whose parents hold China passports and live and work in Shanghai, and whose families hold China passports with overseas legal birth certificates and have permanently resided abroad, shall be provided with an application letter issued by Shanghai Education Commission to prove that they can be registered as students of Shanghai Dewei Foreign Children's School (Pudong).
Children of Hongkong and Macao residents and Taiwan Province compatriots living and working in Shanghai.
Entrance test: Students in grades 1-2 need to provide a letter of recommendation from the teacher (filled in by the head teacher of the student's previous school) and arrange to participate in an interview or English proficiency test according to the student's English proficiency.
Students applying for grade 3- 12 need to take the entrance examination to ensure that they can meet the requirements of the course. The Admissions Committee will comprehensively review students' test scores, transcripts of previous schools and letters of recommendation from teachers. In some cases, applicants will be asked for further interviews. If necessary, non-native English speakers will receive further English proficiency tests.

The students in Shanghai Dewei Foreign Children's School (Pudong) are from 2 years old to 18 years old. The main teaching language is English, and kindergarten education adopts bilingual teaching method. Children under the age of 5 receive early education, starting from grade 1, following the national curriculum in England and Wales strengthened according to international needs.
From grade 10, students begin to study IGCSE, the international certificate of general secondary education, for two years, requiring them to study a wide range of subjects, including mathematics and science, English and foreign languages, and humanities. Students are required to take the course examination at the end of grade 1 1, which lays a solid foundation for the international diploma organization's two-year IBDP starting from grade 12.
