Besides commodities and formats, what impressed me most was the architectural style and the decoration of street view. The street buildings in the Bund section pay attention to individuality and form a collage scene effect. The neoclassical walls and baroque gables alone are colorful, English, Italian, French, Spanish and so on. For example, Luo Hui's new eclectic style, Whistler's and Book of Rites' new baroque clear water red brick walls and flat continuous coupons, Zhonghui Hotel's red brick and white wall alternating with Indian style side colonnade, Sassoon Building's American Art Deco modeling and green dome are all architectural examples with distinctive personality.

road surface

Pavement is an important part of street contour. In the past hundred years, the pavement of the Bund section has experienced the succession from sand to cinder, from ironwood brick to asphalt, from "cement" (concrete) to stone floor tile, and the change of materials records the changes of the times. The road route has changed from a broken line to a curve, and the street skyline has gradually fluctuated from flat, mainly from a four-slope roof to a flat roof with local flowers and domes. The aspect ratio of buildings and streets is constantly changing. According to the third phase interface of the Bund Waterfront, the width of Nanjing Road expanded from the initial 6m to about12m later, and the street-facing buildings rose from the second floor to more than six floors. The height-width ratio of street space has also changed from an average of 1∶ 1 at the beginning to 2∶ 1 later, and finally it can even reach more than 3∶ 1 locally. As early as 1856, the concession authorities had made strict regulations on the road boundary (equivalent to the road red line) where buildings retreated, but the buildings facing the street were never unified.

decorate

In addition to buildings and sidewalks, street outlines need other decorative elements. Street lamps, signboards, manhole covers, trademarks, advertisements and other commercial "outfits", and even reflect the characteristics of fashionable pedestrian costumes and gestures. These elements * * * together constitute a street view. The Bund section is bound by the western street view rules, and the "wardrobe" is generally at the lintel under the eaves, and the distance to pick out the wall is strictly limited. Street lamps are most popular with iron flower decoration in Art Nouveau. Other road sections are mainly decorated with Chinese style. Banners of commercial houses can cross the street, and signboards and manhole covers are allowed to be taken off far away. The street scene is decorated like a stage curtain.
