The ancient poem "Sitting alone in Jingting Mountain"
Sitting alone in Jingting Mountain is a five-character quatrain, which says, "Birds are high, and lonely clouds go to leisure alone." I never get tired of seeing it, only Jingting Mountain. "Jingting Mountain is located in Xuanzhou (now Xuancheng, Anhui). Xuanzhou is a famous city in the south of the Yangtze River since the Six Dynasties. Two famous poets in the Southern Dynasties were Xie Lingyun and Xie. Both of them used to be heads-catchers here, and they were both predecessors of Li Bai's favorite poetry circles, especially Xiao Xie, who was repeatedly mentioned in his poems. Li Bai traveled to Xuancheng seven times in his life. This poem was written in the autumn of the twelfth year of Tianbao (AD 753). At this point, he has left Chang 'an for ten years. During this period, he realized the great difference between the two social roles, from the son of heaven to the scholar in the rivers and lakes, and also tasted the ups and downs of the world. But Li Bai didn't bow to the world at all, and he wouldn't go with the flow. He sought truth in wine and enjoyed himself in the mountains, although he also ended up at ease. Li Bai stayed alone in the mountains, with no relatives or friends around him, and even the living things were far away from him. "All the birds fly high", even the birds can't wait to fly away, flying high, leaving all the people. In the end, there was not even a bird left. "Fly high" wrote the bird's flight so resolutely and thoroughly, without mercy. There really is one. Not only do living birds refuse to stay, but even moving clouds are no exception. "Lonely clouds go to leisure alone", there is only one lonely cloud in the sky. Does Li Bai stay here without company? But, no, the lonely cloud is lonely, but it is also ashamed to echo Li Bai. It is to draw a clear line with him and "go to leisure alone." Although it is not like a bird, it can fly high, but it is also leisurely. ..... When no one is around, he probably always wants something to accompany him, whether it's watching the rolling clouds in the sky or listening to the birds singing in the trees, but now they have all left him and become "loners" with nothing. Du Fu's "No news has reached me from relatives and friends, and I am old, weak, sick and disabled, and I am alone with my boat" ("Climbing Yueyang Tower") seems to have some expectations and hopes. At this time, Li Baizhen can be described as "and you are helpless and poor" (Du Fu's "Two Dreams of Li Bai" No.2). So since Li Bai has not been ignored by the world, even the living "birds" or the unconscious "lonely clouds", in short, everything in the world has rejected Li Bai, and everything around him is silent, without a sound of birds singing or any movement. What is Li Bai thinking in this tranquility? Have you ever reflected or regretted your behavior for most of your life? He didn't, because even in this case, he can still find the sustenance of his soul and find his bosom friend in the world! "I can't get tired of seeing it, only Jingting Mountain." There is also a partner in the world who has a special liking for himself, that is, Jingting Mountain opposite. On the one hand, Li Bai can find pleasure in suffering, full of romantic optimism, on the other hand, it is deeper sorrow, because "Jingting Mountain" is just an ignorant mountain, which can neither "fly" nor "walk"! However, Li Bai did not yield or bow to the secular. This mountain is his bosom friend. Where is his bosom friend? I can stand loneliness and go my own way, whether there are birds or clouds, but there is nothing I can do! This is the fundamental reason why Li Bai and Jingting Mountain never tire of looking at each other. Therefore, this is about their loneliness, about their lack of talent, but also about their firmness, about their seeking comfort and sustenance in nature. As the Book of Songs says, "My heart is full of bandits and I can't roll it up." Or, as Zhuangzi praised in his famous sentence "Happy Travel", it is "the world praises but does not remonstrate, and the world is not discouraged." No wonder Shen Deqian praised this poem as "the God of Sitting Alone" in his Collection of Tang Poems.
