The first time volunteers "swept the building", the harvest was full.
As a party member in recent 10 years, she has been busy with work and family since graduation, and she is ashamed that she has never signed up for any community service and volunteer activities.

On the one hand, because my company didn't ask for this piece, on the other hand, because I was caught in an either-or cycle in the past, I didn't think I could do my job well by participating in these activities, so I didn't have time to study and improve myself. Of course, this is only recently realized.

After knowing the problem, we must try our best to jump out of the strange circle, and our attention and actions will inevitably change. Through inquiry and fingerprint identification, we finally entered a community party group.

Yesterday, the group sent a notice saying that it organized a publicity activity about "party member sinking community, vaccination into the community" in the evening. Seeing the information, I signed up immediately.

That's how my first community volunteer service began.

Compress overtime hours after work, arrive at the community branch at 7: 15 in advance, and report first.

Because I have never participated in similar activities, I sat in the back after signing in, and people came to report one after another. Forty or fifty people were employees of older enterprises and institutions.

The activity that night was a group of two people, responsible for registering the vaccination situation of 40 or 50 households in the community, and guiding the unvaccinated people to take advantage of the convenience service in the park to take the time to vaccinate. I call this activity "sweeping the building".

After introducing the specific content of the activity and taking a group photo, I set off with my partner (a local elder brother in his 40 s and 50 s, called him "Brother C"). We are in charge of two staircase buildings, each with 7 floors (residents start from the second floor) and 4 households on each floor, making a total of 48 households. We will knock on doors to register.

It took about an hour and a half to complete the "sweeping the building", and it was almost 9 o'clock when I returned my watch and vest. I felt very good and full on the way home after handing in the form, because this process experienced expectation, tension, calmness, laughter, and of course I realized some of my shortcomings, so I replied with the help of words.

1. took the first step of volunteering and enjoyed the process.

From the inner resistance to this kind of activity to voluntary participation, it is incredible to think about it. This process actually took nearly 10 years. After taking this step, I found that I had missed too much before, so I should actively participate in more similar and even more meaningful volunteer activities.

I am more familiar with my community.

It's almost five years since I entered my present community. Because the scope of activities is basically only home, the entrance and exit of the community and the swimming pool, the people I know are only the same community I often meet.

Through this "sweeping the building", I not only met my colleague brother C and one or two talkative owners, but also met the mother of a classmate in the early education center before my child. This mother met me downstairs and at the gate of the community several times before. Every time, she took the initiative to say hello to me, but I always smiled politely because I didn't know her. It wasn't until the graduation ceremony that she spoke on behalf of her parents that I realized that she was the mother of a good friend whose children often talked about.

Therefore, through this activity, I learned more about the community where I live, and decided to pay more attention to it and send it to the life of my community.

3. Communication and expression skills have been experienced.

It is not easy for me to knock on a stranger's door for the first time and let others cooperate with the registration information.

I have always been very active, knocking at the door and talking to people without any preparation. Naturally, the first company refused to register information directly after a few simple words, and the latter was not very ideal. Brother C, who accompanied me in this process, basically had no chance to speak because I was too "active".

Finally, brother C estimated that he couldn't stand it, so he took the initiative to communicate with others. After joining, he basically asked the owner to fill in the information.

Only then did I realize the problem. On the one hand, I didn't identify myself with short words after the host opened the door. For example, Brother C directly said, "Hello, we are from the neighborhood committee, and we are here to collect the vaccination status of family members ...", which has the advantage of being more trustworthy and less verbose.

On the other hand, I can't speak Cantonese myself, and many residents are locals, so the communication effect is greatly reduced.

After having some experience, I discussed with Brother C. He communicated with local residents and I communicated with people who spoke Mandarin. I was also responsible for taking some photos of him, and finally the task was successfully completed.

Therefore, through this face-to-face communication experience with different people, I experienced the oral expression ability that was usually ignored.

I made a little joke, but I still feel dumbfounding when I think about it later.

In the process of sweeping the building, a family opened the door by themselves and a young man under the age of 20 came out. At this time, Brother C was registering information for another company nearby, so I took the initiative to communicate with the young man. He is also very polite. He listened to me for a long time, and finally pointed weakly at Brother C and said, "He is my father."

It turns out that that building is brother c's base camp.

Generally speaking, the experience and gains of participating in this volunteer activity exceeded my expectations, and I am more open-minded about things I have never experienced. I hope I can participate in similar activities as much as possible in the future, enrich my life and experience and make myself more grounded.
