I believe many people still remember the video of Li Shangrong, a little girl from Tianjin who broke the news on 20 14, participating in CCTV's "Starting for Happiness". A 6-year-old girl can already know more than 4,000 Chinese characters, and can casually say a long paragraph of sentences from the Four Books and Five Classics, which can also be applied to China classics such as The Book of Changes, The Analects of Confucius and Mencius. For many people, Li Shangrong's example seems to be just an example, which is naturally related to his parents' educational background. Ordinary families may not have the ability or need to instill so many classics of Chinese studies when their children are so young, but it is the goal pursued by many parents to teach their children to read in an entertaining way and develop a good habit of reading as soon as possible.

Under our influence, our eldest daughter Xi was able to read three or four thousand words without too much deliberate indoctrination before going to primary school, and completely developed the good habit of reading independently. How did we do it?

Lesson 1: Books are toys and good things.

Before the child can't walk and talk, the cards and cloth books that can't be torn are already indispensable toys for her. From black and white cards to color cards, to cloth books with various patterns and colors, I put them beside her and read them with her from time to time. Naturally, in her mind, these cards and books are already one of the most attractive toys for her. Probably from a very young age, when I study or read books, if conditions permit, I will put my children beside me, even in my arms. Maybe the child doesn't know what books I read at all (many of them are professional books), but it may have been instilled in the child's mind that books are something that parents like very much.

Experience 2: The effect of accompanying reading is amazing.

When we have leisure time, we will find some picture books and start reading them to our children. Reading alone can slowly attract children's attention, and repeated reading combined with children's amazing memory will soon produce strange effects. For example, some picture book stories, after reading several times, children can actually tell these stories word for word by turning over the books when they are illiterate. This kind of accompanying reading not only improves children's literacy ability, but also exercises their language ability.

Experience 3: Literacy at the age of two is the golden age.

I have been playing card literacy games with my children since I was about two years old. This kind of card is an object on one side and a word on the other. By changing quickly and following it for a few minutes every day, children will soon master the first 100 words. The word 100 is very important, which laid the foundation for Xihe to start systematic literacy and reading. After a period of time, the speed of literacy is getting faster and faster, as if it were out of control. I insist on reading stories to my children, while spending a few minutes showing them cards every day. With mutual promotion, children's concepts of reading and literacy become clearer and clearer. There is about half a year in the middle, because I went out to find a house and didn't have time to accompany my children. Now we still regret it. If it weren't for the half-year delay, our children should be able to read faster. Looking back, two years old is indeed the most efficient time for children to study. Maybe at this time, the child's brain is like a sponge, which can be absorbed quickly.

Lesson 4: Cherish books first, and then like them.

Children don't fully understand the difference between books and toys at first. Naturally, paper books are bound to be bitten or torn by children or are commonplace. At this time, don't criticize children. Instead, we should concentrate on finding a time to repair these broken books together, invite children to repair the broken parts together, and carefully tape them. Slowly, maybe children will understand that books are something to cherish, and fewer and fewer people will take the initiative to destroy books. Even if they accidentally catch torn pages, they will feel annoyed and will take the initiative to ask us to help her repair these books.

Experience 5: Create an environment and atmosphere for reading.

Since the child was three years old, we have prepared a special reading corner and bookshelf for the child. When I was in kindergarten, I added a special desk and a special bookshelf. Children come back from kindergarten every day, and after washing their hands, they like to choose their favorite books from the bookshelf and sit at the desk to read. Slowly, children spend more and more time immersed in books. When the child is reading, we also try to minimize the disturbance to her. No matter how busy she is, there is a period of reading time for her every day. Adults in the family rarely have the opportunity to watch TV. Even the IPAD contains everything from children's songs to stories and a few games. And the time to contact the IPAD is strictly controlled. Gradually, in the child's life, the book became her first important good friend. We don't need coercive measures, and children are immune to electronic products such as IPAD. For her, the IPAD is just a tool for listening to stories.

Experience 6: Take books as prizes.

In the process of children's growth, we often make plans with children, and as a reward for realizing these plans, books have become a prize that should not be given up and a tool to motivate children. When choosing a series of books, we usually don't give them all to our children at once. When children come into contact with a book, they like it very much, but in the introduction of the back cover, they find that there are many series of books. At this time, we give the child the choice, and she can choose what she likes best. When she achieves her next goal, we will put the book on her desk as scheduled.

The power of time is magical. When kindergarten children mostly rely on teachers and parents to tell stories, Xi has completely developed a good reading interest and the habit of reading independently. He has read more than 200 picture books, story books and reading books.
