Affected by strong cold air, continuous snowfall occurred in many places in Xinjiang. The local snowfall near Urumqi, Tacheng, Altay, Ili Valley and Tianshan Mountain reached the level of blizzard, accompanied by strong winds. In the past 20 hours, 44 weather warnings of snowstorms, strong winds and cold waves have been issued in various parts of Xinjiang.

Affected by the snowstorm, snow and road icing appeared in various places, with strong wind and low visibility, which adversely affected traffic. Several passenger trains on the southern Xinjiang railway have stopped at night to take shelter from the wind. Urumqi Diwobao International Airport was closed at night due to runway snow removal until 7: 20 on the 28th, which has caused more than 60 flights to be delayed and cancelled. Urumqi issued an orange warning of blizzard at 2: 35 am on the 28th, and all primary and secondary schools and kindergartens in the city were closed on the 28th.

At present, local sanitation, road administration and communities are stepping up road snow removal to ensure travel. Urumqi Snow Clearing Headquarters Office dispatched 1200 snow clearing equipment and more than 700 snow clearing personnel to clear snow overnight to ensure smooth traffic in the urban area during the morning rush hour on the 28th. In order to ensure the normal operation of flights, the airport in northern Xinjiang organized personnel to clear the runway snow at night, and the railway department also organized personnel to inspect along the railway in time to ensure the safety and smoothness of the line.
