"How do you feel when you dance ballet?"

"I feel very good ... once I entered, it was like forgetting everything and my body disappeared. Like a flying bird. Like lightning. Yes, like lightning! "

Billy elliott tells a touching story about a little boy's persistent love for ballet art, which finally enabled him to overcome poverty and prejudice and realize his dream.

Billy Eliot (Jamie Bell), a boy of 1 1, is the son of a coal miner. He lived with his father and brother in a small town in northern England since he was a child. He goes to boxing training classes every week. One day, during the training class, he came into contact with ballet by chance, and this beautiful art immediately attracted him deeply. This boy also dazzles Mrs Wilkinson (Julie Walters), a strict ballet teacher. She finds that Billy is a rare talented ballet dancer. Mrs Wilkinson has a sharp mouth and always holds a cigarette in her hand, but when she saw Billy's rare dancing potential, she also took a keen interest in him. She even gave up other female ballet disciples and trained Billy wholeheartedly.

However, Billy's study of ballet has been kept secret from his single father (gary lewis) and bossy brother (Jamie Draven). The strike in the mine made them struggle to fill their stomachs. When they finally found out that Billy had wasted his boxing tuition on unmanly ballet, a family conflict inevitably broke out.

Billy's grandmother (Jean Heywood) doesn't approve of his going to ballet class either. Therefore, he can only find a little comfort from his good friend Michael (Stuart Wells), which further deepens their friendship.

At the same time, Mrs Wilkinson also actively encouraged Billy to apply for the Royal Ballet School in London, where she thought Billy could get better training and get rid of the great pressure from his family environment.

Billy, on the other hand, was caught in the contradiction between the responsibility to his family and the realization of his ideal, but he finally chose the latter, because his love for ballet is irresistible, and ballet is his passion and his destiny.

Behind the scenes:

This is the first time that director Steven Derry has directed a film independently. It is no accident that the producer found that he has a unique eye. Mainly because the film's screenwriter Finney once worked with Steven on a short film, and they cooperated very well, so after finishing the script, Finney first thought of Steven, and they were able to regroup.

Billy elliott, the hero of the film, is played by Jamie Bell, who is 0/3 years old. This film is also Bell's first time. He began to learn dance at the age of 6. He was selected from more than 3000 British teenagers through layer-by-layer assessment. It is said that in the process of selecting Billy, the director, screenwriter and producer disagreed until Jamie came into their sight.

There are no big-name stars in the film, and the director and several main actors used are all filming for the first time. Even Universal View, the distribution company, is a new company of Universal Pictures. But the film was a great success. It premiered in Cannes and received rave reviews, which was fully affirmed by BBC film critics. Then he won an award at the Toronto Film Festival with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon directed by Ang Lee. As a low-budget film with a cost of only 2.9 million pounds, billy elliott won many awards, which is believed to be unexpected by the producers.
