Advanced Reading of Original English Books: From Reading to Fluent Reading
I really started intensive reading of English original books in May 2008+2065438. At that time, my English level was roughly the same: I passed Grade 8, Grade 3 and Grade 2 in college; IELTS 8 (Listening 9 Reading 9 Writing 8, Speaking 8); Master of English interpretation and translation, working in the UK for 2 years.

In reading, most exams are ok; Some original English books with uncomplicated sentence structures are easy to read, such as Animal Farm, Devil's Economics, Wilde's Fairy Tales and Drama.

However, when browsing an English book at random, I often have such troubles: I can understand it, but I can't read it fluently enough (some long sentences need to be read several times to understand the structure), so I can't fully appreciate the beauty of the text.

Personally, the reason for this problem lies not in vocabulary, but in: exam-oriented reading (not derogatory) is very different from ordinary book reading.

Take IELTS reading as an example: IELTS uses academic articles selected from major foreign academic journals and periodicals, mainly for discussion and explanation, without lengthy narration and description. Language is logical and literary; The level of writing is extremely high, and oral expression is rare.

Non-academic general books must not be in this style.

Of course, there are many non-fiction works, whose styles are close to those of exam-oriented reading articles, but their "academic sense" and "writing sense" are not so strong.

Fictional reading experiences such as novels are even more different-

This passage is taken from Nebula's award-winning work "Uprooted". Such a vivid description, coupled with the dense non-predicate structure, has never been seen in my exams for many years.

This subtle description is taken from ian mcewan's On the Beach of Cheshire. Comparing such a long sentence with strong literariness with the long sentence in exam-oriented reading, we will find that their styles are quite different.

This contrast explains why many people, like me a year ago, have studied English for so many years, but their English level is not wrong, but they still can't read the original English books fluently-it takes time to adapt to "non-exam-oriented" English!

How to adapt? Read more books, of course!

Trial reading can take you to experience the language difficulty, language style, writing style and other aspects of a book, thus helping you find books that suit your reading level and your reading taste.

Many reading websites at home and abroad offer trial reading. Even if you don't buy books on it, you can at least try and feel the styles of different writers.

The philosopher Wozniak once said: reading a boring book is like enduring a slap in the face and having no pleasure.

Whether a book is interesting or not is actually a very subjective judgment. The Lord of the Rings is an unprecedented classic. There are countless books, but many people think it is slow in pace and outdated in language. It is said that less than 35 people in the world can read Ulysses, and the stream of consciousness is no longer a stream of consciousness, but it also fascinates many people and can't stop.

It is you and only you who should judge whether a book is interesting.

Therefore, when necessary, put aside the website rating and ignore the comments of netizens. Look at the introduction and see if you like the theme; Try reading it and see if words can attract your attention like magnets.

The philosopher Wozniak once said: Reading fifty shades of grey 10 times will not improve your English reading level.

Books with relatively poor writing skills, such as fifty shades of grey and Twilight, can neither help you get a good English flow, nor help you adapt to complex long sentences and rich and varied vocabulary, so they can neither bring you hearty reading pleasure nor help you greatly improve your reading level-I don't even recommend making introductory books, because there are countless good books suitable for English reading!

(* self-recommended watercress list:/doulist/110565761/)

There are countless good English books, which are both fascinating and literary. They can not only help you understand and adapt to the English language structure, enrich your vocabulary, but also let you see everything, know astronomy above and geography below, and turn reading into enjoyment. Reading such a good book is better than reading a bad book of 10. Get twice the result with half the effort. Why not?

A) Personally, my most recommended method is to read all kinds of book-winning works and books on various lists.

For example:

1) British Booker Award British Booker Award/~ A very important novel award in the field of contemporary English novels, which is very literary and super famous!

2) National Book Award? British National Book Award, nicknamed Nibbies.

As a Douban reading in the English world, there are many more scores and book reviews of English books here than domestic websites, and sometimes the author himself will have a question-and-answer interaction with readers!

Goodreads also publishes a list covering all kinds of books every year.

C) Finally, how can I not mention my "enlightenment" Amazon?

Amazon Bookstore in Britain: /books-used-books- textbooks /b/? ie = UTF8 & ampnode = 283 155 & amp; ref_=topnav_storetab_b

Amazon will classify and not give you a recommendation; Search more, and the books recommended by Amazon will be closer to your preferences.

In 20 18, I formed a "bad" habit that I didn't want to quit: I went to the Kindle store on Amazon every day to see which books were 99p.

It's not my fault. Who told me that Kindle has so many discounts, including all kinds of other good books? If you don't look at it or buy it, it's equivalent to turning a blind eye to the food delivered to your mouth, which is simply torture.

One thing that I am particularly happy about is that there are several books that I particularly want to read. Waiting for the stars and the moon, the price is finally reduced! !

In fact, the original price of Kindle edition of these books is not very expensive, but once you get used to 99p, books over 2 pounds will be called your business from now on.

Just checked, I bought 32 Kindle e-books on Amazon on 20 18, of which 27 were bought by 99p. The most expensive one is 3.99 pounds, but it's just the trilogy of All Spirits (I really don't want to wait for the third one to be discounted)!

In fact, I just want to say:

Thanks to Amazon dad's discount books, I can simply buy English books, find many English books that I really want to read and eager to finish, and read them anytime and anywhere-only in this way can I finish reading the original English books smoothly on 20 18.

(* Note: The original English books here refer to general books, excluding highly specialized or extremely difficult books. Hehehe \ (≧▽≦)/)

(* Attached is a list of English books that are recognized as difficult to read:/Only experienced bookworms can finish these challenging books)

After the improvement of English reading level, my whole life has brightened a lot:

At the end of the year, I looked through some second-hand English books I bought a few years ago-some of them were bought out of worship, but they were too difficult to finish reading; Some of them are stumbled through, so the reading experience is not good-it is no longer a gobbledygook.

The list of books suddenly became longer. Oh yeah!

When I saw an interesting book in a bookstore or Amazon, my first reaction was to ask myself: Can I understand it? Then hesitate for a while before starting a trial reading.

Now, I'm going to try it directly. My concern is no longer whether I can understand it, but whether I like the style/style of the book.

Once you can read a lot of English books, you will enter a vast reading universe.

Here, you no longer have to wait for your beloved author's new book to be translated into Chinese, and you no longer have to chew on those boring and low-quality Chinese versions.

Here, English reading is no longer a reading exercise, but an encounter with beautiful words, a journey through countless parallel worlds-an adventure that no one wants to give up halfway.

20 18 years of study took me on such an adventure.

20 19, I will continue to refuel. 20 19, are you ready to start an adventure?

Happy reading! ! :))

P.S. hopes that everyone will support and buy genuine books as much as possible.
