With the approval of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the new library of Dalian University of Technology was named Bochuan Library and Shaw Hall to commemorate Dr. Qu Bochuan, one of the main founders of Dalian University of Technology and a famous educator, and to praise the feat of Mr. Shao Yifu, a Hong Kong patriot who was enthusiastic about social welfare and sponsored the education of the motherland. Bochuan Library is elegant and modern in design, which is the wisdom crystallization of Professor Qi Kang, a famous architect in China, an academician of China Academy of Sciences and an architect of Dalian University of Technology. Bochuan Library adopts a square horseshoe-shaped layout, concave to the square of the main building of the school, and its wings extend slightly outward. The facade of the north entrance contrasts with the large solid wall with vertical windows, inlaid with relief, symbolizing the explosion of knowledge. The large-scale dismantling of the inner courtyard means that the ocean of talents, knowledge and information gathers here to nurture students. The facade of the south entrance, with obvious gate shape and large steps, creates a solemn atmosphere of entering the gate of the science museum. There are also two unique eye windows on the facade, suggesting that people should pay attention to observing things and observing the world. The facilities and equipment of Bochuan Library are all configured according to the domestic first-class level. It is a multifunctional and electronic modern university library integrating book collection, reading, information service and academic system.
