Shanghai Library is a research-oriented public library, which was built in July 1952. The original site was located at No.325 Nanjing West Road, and then moved to Huaihai Middle Road 1555.
Shanghai Library has a collection of130,000 volumes, ranking second in China and among the top ten libraries in the world. It is famous for its collection of genealogy, letters, Chinese and English modern newspapers and periodicals, western rare books and inscriptions.
