1999 built a multimedia reading room with 50 computers (now it has increased to 320).
In 2003, when Zhang Dejiang, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, inspected Shaoguan University, he gave the school an important instruction of "building a first-class campus, striving for first-class quality and cultivating first-class talents". Taking this opportunity, on the basis of the provincial financial allocation of 38 million yuan, the school built a library in the form of discount loans and self-financing, which made great contributions to the cultural construction in northern Guangdong.
In 2005, the library "one card" management system was successfully completed, which made the library take a new step in automation management. The library has 16 servers, a large-scale network switching system, a 6-ton optical disk tower and a disk array storage system. The library has accelerated the pace of digital resources construction, and successively introduced digital information resources such as VIP Chinese periodical database, China periodical network, SpringerLink, "Home of Scholars" e-book, Wanfang full-text database of China's dissertations, and 56-year full-text data of People's Daily. The library has also actively developed resource sharing and joined the Guangdong Provincial Network Library, becoming one of the top ten mirror sites of the Guangdong Provincial Network Library. In addition, we have independently developed the full-text database of scientific research achievements of Shaoguan University and the non-book database of the library. A document information resource guarantee system has been established for the needs of school teaching and scientific research.
