Hunan Vocational College of Science and Technology, formerly known as Hunan Light Industry School, was founded in 1958.
1959, Hunan Provincial Department of Light Industry decided to set up Liling Branch of Hunan Provincial Light Industry School.
1In July, 962, Hunan Light Industry School merged with Hunan Chemical Industry School, and the school name was Hunan Light Industry Chemical Industry School.
1In August, 970, the Revolutionary Committee of Hunan Province decided to "cancel Hunan Light Industry and Chemical Engineering School and change it to Hunan Textile Machinery Factory".

In May 2003, with the consent of the Hunan Provincial Government, the Second Light Industrial School of Hunan Province (including the former Hunan Industrial Science and Technology Workers College) was merged.
In 2003, the school was approved by the Ministry of Education as the first batch of institutions of higher learning to pilot the National Model Software Vocational and Technical College.
