Shaoxing Museum is located between Yan 'an Road and Luxun Road in Shaoxing City, adjacent to Shaoxing Library in the east and Shenyuan Garden, a famous garden in the Song Dynasty in the west. Based on the design concept of the Garden Museum, the layout of the front hall and backyard, the central axis of the building is the square and the main exhibition hall, auxiliary exhibition hall and multi-function hall on the east side, and the office building and cultural relics company on the west side are two-story steel tube modern buildings. The plane of the main exhibition hall is two alternating squares, with a skylight in the middle of the roof and four slopes for lighting. The beige brick walls and peacock green glazed tiles set each other off and attracted the attention of Youxian County. There are pavilions, bridges and flowing water, rockery and lotus ponds, beautiful trees and fragrant flowers in the garden. The environment is elegant and you can relax.

1April, 1990, Shaoxing Lugang CPPCC members jointly proposed to build Shaoxing Museum, which was highly valued by the Shaoxing Municipal Government and CPPCC, and all sectors of society responded positively, and the cultural relics management department quickly made a plan. 1991April, the municipal government made a decision to build a museum. Soon, the preparatory committee of Shaoxing Museum was established, with Eden Wang as the director, Xu Wencheng and Ni Tiecheng as the deputy directors, and Wang Benqing as the member and director of the office. In July, Che, Zhang Chuanxin, Xu Renchang, Ni Tiecheng, Chen and Xu Chunrong donated 3.5 million yuan, which became the first fund for the museum construction. In August, with the approval of the Provincial Economic Commission, Shaoxing Museum was formally established. The building was designed by the Design Institute of Zhejiang Construction Engineering Corporation, and the exhibition team of Shaoxing No.1 Construction and Installation Engineering Corporation was responsible for the preparation. 1in March, 1992, the Municipal Editorial Board Office issued a document agreeing to set up Shaoxing Museum, institutions and staff of 15 people. In April, the museum held a groundbreaking ceremony; The Preparatory Committee organized experts from provinces and cities to demonstrate the scheme of Shaoxing Cultural Relics Exhibition, and entrusted Carol Lam and Xu Peijin as the official design of Shaoxing Cultural Relics Exhibition. Zhao Puchu, vice chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, wrote the name of the museum; On April 6th, Shaoxing Museum was grandly opened. 1June, 1996 to1August, 1997, the second phase of the museum project (auxiliary exhibition hall, multi-function hall, and warehouse of cultural relics company) was completed, and with the help of zhejiang museum of natural history, the auxiliary exhibition hall was arranged as a natural science exhibition, which was opened to the public on September 28th. 1June 1996 10, Wang Junying was appointed as the curator by the Municipal Bureau of Culture.
