Introduction to Wang Xuetao:

Mr Wang Xuetao (1903- 1982) was born in Chi Yuan. 16 years old was admitted to the Department of Handicraft Painting of Zhili Teachers College in Baoding, Hebei Province, and 19 years old was admitted to the National Beijing Institute of Art.. Studied under famous painters such as, Wang, Qi Baishi, etc. After graduation, he stayed on as a teacher and concurrently served as a professor at Beijing Academy of Fine Arts and North Huamei College. Participated in the Chinese Painting Research Association in the 1920s. After the founding of New China, he served as editor of People's Fine Arts Publishing House, associate researcher of National Academy of Fine Arts, and executive director of Beijing Chinese Painting Research Association. Participated in the preparation of Beijing Painting Academy, and served as a member and painter of the Academy. He served as dean of the college from 65438 to 0979. He used to be the representative of the 7th Beijing Municipal People's Congress, member of the 5th Beijing CPPCC, director of China Artists Association, vice chairman of Beijing Artists Association, academician of China Painting Academy, and president of Beijing Flower and Bird Painting Association. Moderator: We know that Mr. Wang Xuetao has many students. Today, we have invited Mr. Wang Peidong, one of the old man's students, the painter and director of the studio of Beijing Painting Academy. Hello, Mr. Wang.

Wang Peidong: Hello.

Moderator: There are many people engaged in the creation of freehand brushwork flower-and-bird paintings in the history of modern art in China, and there are also many successful painters. How did Mr. Wang Xuetao establish his position in flower-and-bird painting? Do you want to introduce it to the audience first? Wang Peidong: Compared with contemporary painters, he is not a freehand brushwork like the original literati painting, nor is he copying other people's things from ordinary painters, but he expresses what he wants to express according to his own personality. He found himself and his own artistic language, and he fully expressed his love for life with this small freehand brushwork. Then he, this thing, he wants to compare with his predecessors. He has something that his predecessor didn't have. For example, he painted so many insects, birds, plants, and their shapes were so vivid. That's different, that is to say, compared with his predecessors, he developed a new period, especially in pen and ink. His colors absorbed the colors of western paintings and naturally blended into our Chinese paintings. Then this is average. At that time, other domestic flower and bird painters used colors, but they were different. In the use of color, he has his own unique things, and he has developed. So as far as his subject matter is concerned, he went to the southwest to sketch, and later drew a lot of things, including peacocks, cuckoos, and things in the southwest, such as (iron chains), which have never been painted before, and the scope of the subject matter has expanded. Would you please tell the audience more about this situation? Wang Peidong: Mr. Wang Xuetao is also in his fifties. After the age of 60, his works are more perfect and highlight his characteristics. For example, Guateng, this Guateng, has a cage for slugs. When he conceived it, he didn't say that he just drew a weaver girl. The weaver girl is not hidden in flowers, leaves or vines. He showed that he climbed out of the cage and stood outside the cage wittily. It was painted by ordinary people, but he didn't think so. This is also very interesting. This picture shows this Hosta. This Hosta has a leaf and a flower with two ladybugs painted on it and a small snail crawling slowly below. In this small painting, he used a few simple strokes to express this emotion, but he showed the vitality of nature. He also has some great works, which are also wonderful. Like this bird, this painting can't be sketched. He kept it in his mind and grasped its dynamics. Look at this bird. Two birds have their own dynamics. One is flying sideways, and the other is looking down from above, so their dynamics are different and vivid. At the bottom is a big flower and a happy tree, which is a branch and very handsome. These flowers point out one by one, very vivid, well-shaped, alienated and scattered. Generally speaking, these flowers are very accurate works. Besides painting some gorgeous things, Mr. Wang also looks at these dark things, such as this banana and this banana. The shade of ink is very rich, so in such an all-ink room, only this one has a banana flower, which is where the banana is tied. This little green is inside, red and green contrast, there is a little mantis under this place. Although this kind of work looks simple, it is a banana and a stone, but it is full of fun with bugs.
