As early as the Zhou Dynasty, China had a library. However, at that time, it was not called a library, but called "Union House", which mainly kept information related to the royal family, such as contracts, books and files. Strictly speaking, this is only the embryonic form of the library. Lao Zi can be called the first librarian in the history of China, because according to Records of the Historian, Lao Zi's surname is Li, his name is Er, and his word is Yong, which is Zhou Shoucang's history book. This "library" is the place where books are collected, and "history" is the official position that specializes in managing books. During the Western Han Dynasty, the royal family began to collect a large number of books. When the People's Republic of China was founded, Xiao He also set up the Shiqu Pavilion and Tianlu Pavilion, which are specialized collections in the palace. This is why people often call the Royal Library "Shiqu" and "Tianlu" later.
