1800 When the library opened, there were only 1 1 boxes of books, which were placed in a room in the Capital Building. By 18 14, the number of books had risen to 3,000, but most of them were burned by British soldiers that year. American President Thomas Jefferson sold his books to rebuild the library. He has about 7000 books in seven languages.
1897, the library moved to its own building, namely Thomas Jefferson building. 1939, the second museum was opened to the public. It was named after President John Adam. However, the space in the library is still too small, so at 1980, a third building was built next to the two libraries, named after the fourth president of the United States, james madison. There is another way for you to visit this building today, and that is http://www.loc.gov.
