The reading rate of books continues to decline.
Amid the uproar from all walks of life, the reading rate of China's national books continues to decline. The latest survey shows that in 2005, the literacy rate in China was only 48.7%, which was lower than 50% for the first time since 1999. At the same time, in 2005, the proportion of China people who agreed that "reading is becoming more and more important" was only 84. 1%, the lowest since 1999.

"Books or medicine can cure fools" is an old saying left by our sages. "Books are the ladder of human progress", which is a famous saying left by Gorky. It can be said that as long as people have received school education and read two books, they rarely haven't heard these two sentences and rarely don't understand the truth. I know and understand, but why are fewer and fewer people close to "books" and the reading rate of national books continues to fall? That's because the pace of life in today's era has changed a lot compared with before; It is also because the way we read today is quietly changing.

We don't need to compare with more distant times, even if we just compare with the society 30 years ago, the change of our life rhythm is very amazing. In the era of planned economy, there is a lack of material, cultural life and competition in work. Life is like an old cow pulling a broken car, creaking and wobbling. Slowly, we can lack something else, but we definitely lack a lot of time. However, in today's market economy, with increasingly rich materials, colorful cultural life and increasing work pressure, we always feel that we have endless work. If we can't talk properly, time will pass like a blink of an eye-I really hope we can't seize the time and let it stand still. In this context, the time we can allocate to reading is naturally very limited. So I agree that "no time to read" is the main reason for the decline in book reading rate.

Another aspect of the problem is that even reading, today, does not only point to books, nor is it limited to the traditional reading method of "drinking tea and reading at night". The survey results of "the reading rate of national network and magazines in China has increased rapidly in recent years" illustrate this point. Why are these two reading methods growing rapidly? It is related to the fact that we have entered the information society today, and the amount of information is unprecedented. People need to get all kinds of information at the first time. Although books may have some advantages in the accumulation of knowledge and the depth of thought, there is obviously a gap between immediacy and the two. In addition, the interactivity of online reading is unmatched by books.

Take my personal experience and understanding as an example. Today, I still read a lot, but to be honest, it is the Internet: online news and "net articles" published on reading websites such as "Mo Xianzhai". The former, let me "know what is going on in the world without going out"; The latter, on the other hand, let me know a lot of frontier thoughts on the edge of mainstream thoughts, and let me contact many historical figures and events that have been dusty for a long time-here, reading is not only to get a spiritual pleasure, but also to think about society and reflect on the past history. In this sense, the value of online reading is not necessarily lower than that of traditional reading. After all, compared with the real world, the online world is a relatively more free and equal world.

For me, who is close to knowing my destiny and consciously accepting and mastering many new things, I am still drifting away from books and getting closer to the internet, not to mention people in their twenties or thirties or a little older. Moreover, judging from many netizens' comments or statements on major international and domestic news in the form of "posts" on the Internet, many people have not become superficial because they are far away from books. On the contrary, they feel more independent and speculative than when the traditional reading methods were dominant in the past. Therefore, I don't think the continuous decline in the reading rate of Chinese national books is really worth worrying about.

As long as we insist on healthy reading, no matter what form, it is beneficial to our society and individuals.
