The library's literature resources have outstanding characteristics, and there are rich and precious railway transportation documents, such as: the first road statistics and the first traffic official newspaper of the postal department in the late Qing Dynasty; From 19 1 1 year, the Ministry of Communications has a record of railway line staff; Summary of railway line construction: Loan contract, railway accounting, railway laws and regulations, and Changchun railway handover document signed by Premier Zhou Enlai on 1953.
The library has a comprehensive collection of doctoral and master's dissertations, and has been collecting excellent undergraduate dissertations since 2003 and 2004. With the in-depth construction of digital library, the library has built a railway transportation characteristic database with 80,000 data and 8,000 full texts.
Through hard work, the construction level of library literature resources has been continuously improved, and the varieties have become increasingly rich. Basically, a diversified literature information resource system with many varieties and types, the combination of virtual collection and physical collection, the consistency of information resources and subject development and its own characteristics has been formed.
As a node on the campus network, the library has a backbone bandwidth of Gigabit and a desktop bandwidth of 100 megabytes. More than10,000 computers on the campus network can search and access library resources 24 hours a day.
In 2004, the library's integrated management system was replaced by the world-class Israeli ALEPH500 integrated management software. UNICODE-based multilingual support can provide users with the choice of nearly 20 interface languages, and provide interactive services such as online reservation, renewal and reminder.
The library also took the lead in selecting the world-class academic information portal system MetaLib software and the original openurl service system SFX software in China, and integrated the existing e-books, e-journals, e-databases and a large number of online free database resources through this platform, realizing one-stop retrieval of various resources, and providing dynamic subject navigation for school teachers and students from the perspectives of subject scope, acquisition methods, resource types and users.
In a word, with the support of the school, through the vigorous construction during the Tenth Five-Year Plan period, the automation and networking level and management means of the library have jumped to a new level.
In order to fully meet the needs of readers, the library is open 7 days a week for 98 hours a week. The library implements the open service mode: the reading room implements the supermarket service integrating collection and reading, and the circulating stacks implement the open-shelf service integrating borrowing. Since 2003, it has established interlibrary loan relationship with nearly 40 libraries in China, such as Tsinghua University Library, Peking University Library, Renmin University of China Library and Beijing Normal University Library, and provided interlibrary loan service. In order to cultivate readers' information awareness and document retrieval ability, the library has carried out information literacy education for students to use document information resources within the scope of Beijing Jiaotong University, and opened a document retrieval course. The number of lecturers and class hours are among the best in the teaching of literature retrieval course in domestic universities. At the same time, special lectures, training and novelty retrieval services of various databases were also carried out.
In order to build a scholarly campus and strengthen the construction of campus culture, since 2003, the library of Beijing Jiaotong University, in conjunction with the Youth League Committee, the Propaganda Department, the Humanities College and other units, has launched the "Scholarly Cup" reading essay activity to guide college students to "read more and read better books". Reading composition has achieved good results in school. As the school leaders pointed out, the library's "Book Cup" activity, as an important part of the school's cultural quality education, is a well-known brand that shows the style of moral education construction in Beijing Jiaotong University. At the same time, the library also holds "Cultural Week" every year, and carries out various exhibitions and training lectures such as "Book Return Promotion Day" and Chinese and foreign literature exhibitions to cultivate college students' cultural knowledge and improve their cultural taste and aesthetic taste.
School leaders spoke highly of "Book Culture Week", believing that it is an important part of the school's comprehensive implementation of the party's educational policy and quality education, and an important measure to build a vibrant campus cultural system with the characteristics of Beijing Jiaotong University. There are 75 staff members in the library, who are responsible for providing literature information services for school readers. Among them, there are 40 professional technicians with bachelor degree or above, accounting for 53% of the total employees. Among them, graduate students 15 and doctors 1 person account for 2 1% of the library staff.
Seeking innovation by service and development by characteristics, the library will focus on the strategic goal of school development, coordinate the four elements of "scale, structure, quality and benefit", and strive to build a railway transportation literature information platform that meets the needs of research universities, and strive to build the library into an open, fully functional and efficient modern library that adapts to the coordinated development of schools and the status of domestic first-class and internationally renowned research universities.
