The background of Jinzhou campaign
Jinzhou is an important stronghold in front of Shanhaiguan, and its geographical location makes it a major strategic stronghold. If Jinzhou is captured, it will enable the China People's Liberation Army to March into the North China Plain. In his telegram to the officers and men of the Northeast People's Liberation Army, Mao Zedong emphasized the importance of capturing Jinzhou, and thought that the key to successfully completing the entire Liaoshen campaign was to "capture Jinzhou within one week".
Beining Road is the most important land passage connecting the Kuomintang troops inside and outside Shanhaiguan, and Jinzhou is the throat of this traffic artery. The city is surrounded by mountains, with Xiaoling River and Nver River in the south, and the terrain is dangerous. Defensive troops in Jinzhou include two divisions of the 93rd Army and the new 8th Army under Fan's command, the new 6th Army 1 Division and the 60th Army 1 Division, and 6 divisions * * *, plus about 65,438+10,000 special forces, logistics and local troops.
The enemy relies on the highlands such as Paotaishan, Shuangshanzi Xishan, Hanwangdian Nanshan, Zijingshan and Liangmashan, with reinforced concrete fortifications as the backbone, forming a number of independent positions with support points as the peripheral positions; Relying on Xiaoling River, Daughter River and City Wall to form the main position;
High-rise buildings in the city, such as Jiaotong University, Japanese Puppet Shrine, China Textile Corporation and Old Town, constitute the core stronghold of the inner city. To defend Jinzhou, the 93rd Army 1 Division was stationed in Yixian, the New Eighth Army 1 Division was stationed in Gao Qiao, the 54th Army was stationed in Jinxi, Huludao and Xingcheng, and the New Fifth Army was stationed in Suizhong, Shanhaiguan, Qinhuangdao and Beidaihe. In addition, four divisions of the sixty-second army and other departments under the North China "suppression general" are located on the Tangshan-Changli line.
