Honghe University, located in mengzi city, the capital of Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, is a provincial-level comprehensive undergraduate college. The school implements the management system of "building * * management by province, focusing on province".

The school, formerly known as Mengzi Teachers College, was founded in 1978. In April 2003, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was formed by the merger of Mengzi Teachers College and Yunnan Radio and TV University Honghe Branch.

As of April 2020, official website shows that the school covers an area of 1 166 mu, with a building area of 335,300 square meters, a teaching and administrative room of 18080 square meters, fixed assets of 645 million yuan, teaching and research instruments and equipment of 9560 yuan100.78 yuan, and library books. There are 923 faculty members, including 682 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, there are 265 teachers with senior titles, including 79 with senior titles, 186 with deputy senior titles, 105 with doctoral degrees and 14075 with full-time students.
