Quanzhou Library was established in May, 1958. The new museum is located in the north of the scenic East Lake Park, covering an area of 9.6 mu, with a building area of 6,320 square meters, including 2,425 square meters of stacks and 2,030 square meters of rooms for readers. The library was awarded "National Civilized Library", "Advanced Library in Fujian Province" and "Top Ten Libraries in Fujian Province" by the Central Ministry of Culture and the Fujian Provincial Department of Culture, and "Civilized Unit (1994- 1995)" by the Leading Group for Coordination of Spiritual Civilization Construction of Quanzhou Municipal Organs. The Party branch of the library has been awarded the titles of "Advanced Grass-roots Party Organization" and "Advanced Five Good Branches" by the Party Committee of Quanzhou Municipal Government for two consecutive years. Some staff members were awarded the title of "National Library Advanced Worker" by the Ministry of Culture, Fujian Provincial Department of Culture and Quanzhou Municipal Committee.
