Does the tortoise run faster than the rabbit?
There is a section in the book "American Campus" that discusses the topic "Can a tortoise run faster than a rabbit?" . According to the author's own judgment, China's children are influenced by the fable of "the tortoise and the rabbit race", and most of them think that "pride makes the rabbit lag behind". The conclusion of American children is that it is scientific common sense that rabbits run faster than turtles. This reminds me of the topic of "attaching importance to boys' reading" I heard in Shenzhen last week. Many places and schools are reading children's books. We carefully select and try to present the best books for children. But for a long time, we have paid little attention to the existence and influence of gender differences among students. I remember President Wu once said at the meeting that we should vigorously cultivate outstanding boys now. This is very necessary. Compared with girls, boys are interesting animals. They are not unwilling to read books, but unwilling to read books that they are not interested in. In daily teaching life, we often find that boys are very devoted to military, popular science and adventure books, but not very active in literature books. In contrast, boys are not only inferior to girls in reading ability, but also have a lower proportion of continuous interest in reading. When they encounter obstacles in reading, they usually choose to give up or escape. I searched online, and Britain has begun to pay attention to boys' reading. Many bookstores have set up adventure novel counters for readers who are mainly boys and don't like reading, and are equipped with special shopping guides. The books displayed on the counter are mostly covered with black or gold thrilling illustrations, which is in sharp contrast with the books for girls mainly in pink and light color. In addition, in order to attract boys to study, some publishing houses match books with cards to satisfy card collectors among boys, some hold competitions and some give away educational toys. These practices are very enlightening to teachers' reading guidance activities. In the selection and recommendation of bibliographies, there should be a sense of boys. Books such as Qian Qian the Dog, Nick Du Ming the Handsome Dog, I Found a Fire-breathing Dragon and Detective Conan should be students' reading targets. The reading club in our class should have some forms that boys like, and even be inspired by the best art teachers. In fact, in a sense, reading for boys is a kind of creative reading. If we stand with that boy calmly, we may find that there are seeds of science and creation here. Boys' reading may open a window of education for us, and let the ability of independent thinking, innovative thinking and inquiry action to find the root cause blow into our campus like a hurricane!
