Shantou Library was established on March 29th, 192 1, formerly known as "Shantou Public Library", and renamed as "Shantou Zhongzheng Library" in June, 1946, and was named "Shantou Library" after liberation. At the beginning of the construction of Shantou Library, the site was located in a small house downstairs at the end of the commercial street in Shantou city, and it has been moved several times. May 1979 Shantou Waima Road 125 City Library Building was started, and it was completed and opened on February 4th 198 1. The building covers an area of 3,600 square meters, with a building area of 2,650 square meters. The main building is four stories high. 1994, Shantou municipal government decided to build a new library in Shantou city. 1in June 1995, the foundation stone was laid for the new building;1in June 1997, the main project of the new building was completed. In 2002, Mr. Lin Baixin, a famous Hong Kong businessman, honorary citizen of Shantou City and honorary president of Shantou Overseas Friendship Association, was enthusiastic about the cultural undertakings in his hometown, and donated 40 million yuan (the actual donation was 43 1.4 million yuan). The Shantou Municipal Government invested 20 million yuan to complete the renovation of the new supporting library. The new museum was completed and opened on February 6, 2006.
