Mr Sha Menghai is a great calligrapher in the 20th century. There are deep researches in language, literature and history, archaeology, calligraphy and seal cutting. Graduated from Zhejiang Dongsi Normal University. He used to be a professor of Chinese Department of Zhejiang University and a professor of Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts. President of Xiling Printing Society, president of Xiling Painting and Calligraphy Institute, honorary curator of Zhejiang Museum, and vice chairman of China Calligraphers Association. He is good at writing big characters on the list, vigorous and powerful. It is known as "Nansha and Beiqi". Nansha refers to Sha Menghai, and Beiqi is Mr. Qi Gong.

Sha Lao is also good at writing plaques, such as Hualian Department Store, Fu Shan Memorial Hall and Lu Memorial Hall.
