The library of National University of Defense Technology was founded in 1953, formerly known as the library of Harbin Institute of Military Engineering, and moved to Changsha with the main body of the school in 1970. After the former Changsha Artillery College, Changsha Academy of Engineering and Changsha Institute of Political Science 1999 were merged into the National University of Defense Technology, the libraries of the three colleges were also merged into the National University of Defense Technology Library. There are three libraries, located in the first, third and fourth campuses respectively, with a total construction area of more than 47,000 square meters and more than 4,300 reading seats.

The library of National University of Defense Technology has more than 2.8 million books (pieces), including Chinese and foreign books 1.7 million, 900,000 microfilms, more than 26 million Chinese periodicals, more than 654.38 million bound periodicals, and more than 654.38 million printed scientific and technological reports and internal materials.

The library of National University of Defense Technology launched a new generation of integrated management system for book business, which realized unified management, unified cataloging, unified retrieval, borrowing and returning across campuses. Complete the construction of large-scale storage system framework and establish application server group; A digital literature information resource system is established, which combines mirror database, network database and other methods, has the characteristics of the school discipline and focuses on full-text protection.

Including international and domestic retrieval systems such as SCI, EI, ISTP, full-text periodical database system, scientific and technological report and meeting record database system, doctoral and master's degree thesis database system, digital book resource system, digital military scientific and technological literature and patents, standards and other systems.

The library of National University of Defense Technology has diversified carriers of information resources, realizing computerization of business work, networking of information inquiry and systematization of document guarantee, and basically constructing the framework of a modern library.

Adhering to the service tenet of "people-oriented, readers first", the Library of National University of Defense Technology actively provides literature information services for teaching and scientific research, actively carries out information consultation and information resource sharing, offers literature retrieval courses and lectures on information resource retrieval and utilization, and carries out various forms of in-depth literature information services such as thematic services, sci-tech novelty retrieval, interlibrary loan and electronic document delivery.
