Tarim University, formerly known as Tarim Agricultural Reclamation University, is located in Aral City on the Tarim River in southern Xinjiang. In order to meet the needs of Xinjiang agricultural reclamation development and Tarim reclamation area development for all kinds of talents, it was founded on 1958 under the advocacy and care of former vice president Wang Zhen. He wrote the name of the school in his own handwriting and served as honorary president for life. The school is the first batch of undergraduate colleges with the right to award bachelor's degrees approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and the Ministry of Education. In 2003, he was awarded the right to master's degree, and in May 2004, he was renamed Tarim University with the approval of the Ministry of Education. Originally a university directly under the Ministry of Agriculture, it is now jointly established by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.

After nearly half a century's efforts, the school has carried forward Nanniwan's fine tradition and anti-grand style, and formed the school spirit of "hard work, national unity, truth-seeking and pragmatic, inspirational and self-improvement" and the spirit of Populus euphratica with the connotation of "hard work, self-improvement, taking root in the frontier and being willing to contribute". Now it has developed into a multi-discipline with agriculture as the mainstay and coordinated development of agriculture, science, engineering, literature, management and law. The campus covers an area of 2,570 mu, the school building covers an area of 370,000 square meters, and there are 968 faculty members, including 570 full-time teachers, professors and associate professors 178, 296 teachers with doctoral and master's degrees, and more than 0/0000 students of all kinds. Tarim University has 10 colleges, 6 master's degree programs and 33 undergraduate majors, involving 6 major disciplines. It has 34 laboratories, 2 provincial key laboratories, 4 provincial key disciplines, 50 key construction courses and 69 teaching practice bases inside and outside the school, and has established Xinjiang cadre training center, biotechnology research and development center, cotton research institute, horticulture research institute, licorice research institute and western culture research institute. Since the Tenth Five-Year Plan, the school has undertaken more than 300 scientific research projects at all levels, including 94 provincial and ministerial projects, 973 pre-research projects and 12 projects funded by the National Natural Science and Philosophy and Social Sciences Fund. * * * Made 32 scientific and technological achievements, published nearly 2,000 papers, and published 52 monographs and teaching materials. The new variety "Xinli No.7" cultivated by school researchers has been popularized both inside and outside the province. The research on the germplasm resources of characteristic fruit trees in southern Xinjiang, the biological resources in Tarim Basin, the ecological research of Populus euphratica, the theoretical and technical research on the cultivation of long-staple cotton varieties and high yield and high quality, and the cultural research in the western regions have made progress and achieved many achievements.

The school has strengthened cooperation and academic exchanges with universities and research institutes at home and abroad, especially Wuhan University, Huazhong Agricultural University and Northeast Agricultural University, and signed cooperation agreements with universities and research institutes at home and abroad such as Beijing Institute of Technology, Providence University and Tarleton University. At the same time, we should keep close contact with Southern Xinjiang Prefecture and Corps Farm, take the road of combining Industry-University-Research, and actively develop scientific and technological services. The school has sent more than 20 science and technology deputy counties (regiments) to work in local and league farms. In terms of scientific and technological consultation and promotion, teachers and students have been sent to participate in scientific and technological services for more than 5,000 times, and more than 20,000 people have been trained, which has made positive contributions to the economic and social development of the autonomous region and the Corps.

Since its establishment, the school has trained more than 20,000 graduates for the country. Most graduates have become the backbone of professional technology, scientific research and management in the autonomous region and the Corps, with high social recognition and good evaluation by employers. The society generally believes that graduates are simple, hardworking, practical, able to get down, stay and do well. According to the statistics released by the Personnel Department and the Education Department of the Autonomous Region, the one-time employment rate of graduates of our university ranked among the top three universities in the autonomous region for seven consecutive years, and ranked first among undergraduate universities in the autonomous region in 2003 and 2005, showing the distinctive school-running characteristics of "Desert University educates people with the spirit of Populus euphratica, and Tahe Pearl serves Xinjiang and the frontier". In September 2007, the Ministry of Education made excellent achievements in the evaluation of undergraduate teaching level.
