Fujian University of Science and Technology is a university under construction, and its predecessor, Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, is one of the three high-level universities supported by Fujian Province. It is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Agriculture, the State Forestry Administration and the Fujian Provincial Government. The school is the only agricultural and forestry undergraduate college in Fujian Province, and has achieved fruitful results in cultivating high-level and high-quality talents, carrying out high-level scientific and technological innovation and social services, and promoting opening up.
The school is the first batch of master's degree awarding units and the second batch of doctoral degree awarding units in China. It is an excellent university evaluated by the Ministry of Education and a batch of undergraduate enrollment universities in Fujian Province. The school's predecessor was the Agricultural College of Fujian Christian University founded in 1936 and Fujian Provincial Agricultural College founded in 1940. In 2000, the former Fujian Agricultural University and the former Fujian Forestry College merged to form the new Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University.

There are 30,000 full-time students, including 4,500 doctoral and master students. Two independent colleges, Jinshan College and Oriental College, have been established, with students of 1.8 million.
