Hunan Foreign Trade Vocational College is a full-time ordinary higher vocational college approved by the Hunan Provincial People's Government and filed by the Ministry of Education. It is a model higher vocational college in Hunan Province.

The college's predecessor was Hunan Grain School founded by 1954 and Hunan Foreign Economic and Trade School founded by 1978. In 2003, Hunan Grain School and Hunan Foreign Economic and Trade School merged to form Hunan Foreign Trade Vocational College.
